There is a command line option that will allow you to see what is happening
on the server side.
from the man page for sshd:
-d Debug mode. The server sends verbose debug output to the system
log, and does not put itself in the background. The server also
will not fork and will only process one connection. This option
is only intended for debugging for the server. Multiple -d op-
tions increase the debugging level. Maximum is 3.
This will display incredible amounts of information if you use it 3 times.

Subject: key authentication & logging
Hello guys, I've just set up an OpenSSH Server, it works perfect using password authentication; I'm trying to set up the client for automatic connections using key authentication and I got this message at the client after the banner: "Permission denied (publickey,keyboard-interactive)."
Trying to diagnose it, but don't know how to enable logging on the server and where the log info is located.
I tried
SyslogFacility AUTH
LogLevel VERBOSE
at the sshd_config file but I see no change at the /var/log folder
Any idea?
Thanks in advance.
Fidencio Monroy.
