I know this has ben repeated blindly hundreds of times, however, I recommend you try installing copSSH. The openSSH for Windows package is very old, and requies OS tweeks after install when used on more modern windows servers. CopSSH is the same SSH program, except that copSSH is up to date, and the installer takes care of tweeking the OS for you.

That aside, are you familliar with pub key SSH auth? The configuration, and permissioning is very picky, also, you need to make sure you have the users and groups setup is cygwin, but since passwd auth works, that is probably already done.

Subject: Disconnects from server after authentication key validation

Hi All

I'm new to the list. Unfortunately I arrive with a problem I'm trying to
solve. I installed the Windows openssh port on a Windows XP Professional
machine. I initially setup simple password authentication which worked
well. I tested if both from a Linux and OSX client.

I then setup authorization keys using ssh_keygen. I generated the public
key on one of my *NIX machines and copied it over to the Windows box and
then attempted to connect. I can see that it makes the connection
successfully, authenticates the dsa key, appears to send the environment
and then bam... it disconnects from the server with some "channel 0"
chatter. I don't know what it's failing on.

I tried setting different sshd_config options to no avail. I did set
StrictModes off as recommended. I also turned off PermitUserEnvironment.
I'm still having problems. Does anyone have a suggestion?

TIA - Tim
