the files you need specifically are, at least on my distro, found in
/etc/ssh/ssh_host_* There should be between 2 and 6 files depending on
the type of keys you configured for. Most likely there will be 6.

That's basically the method that I had to use for around 10 years (until
'96 or so when I started using the ports system under BSD). So I still
tend to think in terms of just building everything from source.
