Yes Mike, we know SSH != SSL, but the bottom line is a secure channel
into MySql is the goal I believe for the original poster. Using SSL
directly on a socket/port is nice, but if that option doesn't work, then
looking at SSH is another avenue.

I won't be posting MySql questions here anymore and have not done so in
the past, my point is to let others know that we have tried the
"compiling the MySql source" option already and it doesn't seem to work
for us.

I'm interested in the SSH solution, so I'll keep tuning in.

BTW, another solution is to create a Web Service Interface running over
a secured URL (i.e. https) then have the back end talk to your internal
servers such as the MySql server, this is how many businesses are
running their services these days. :-)
