RE: cygwin sshd service error

There should be a space between /var/empty /etc/ssh_h*

Two separate filspecs.

If StrictModes is on in /etc/sshd_config, then these two file groups must be
owned by the user Windows uses to start the service (SYSTEM except on Server
2003 unless you've changed it).

Subject: cygwin sshd service error

Hi all.

I installed cygwin with the sshd package on a XP Home computer.

I followed the install instructions and the sshd server starts up when issue
the command in cygwin. If I manually start it by typing "/usr/sbin/sshd",
the server runs.

It is also installed as a service (via ssh-host-config) but it won't run as
a service. I get an error when I type "net start sshd":
The CYGWIN sshd service is starting.
The CYGWIN sshd service could not be started.
The service did not report an error.

I went to look at the event view logs:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( sshd ) cannot be found. The
local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message
DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use
the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for
details. The following information is part of the event: sshd : PID 144 :
`sshd' service stopped.

The only issue I had with the install is when I tried to do: chown
system:system /var/empty/etc/ssh_h*, it gave me an error saying the
directory or file did not exist.

I was baffled why it run when manually starting it up, but not as a service.

Thanks in advance.
