Given that the problem I'm having can't be unique I thought I'd try
looking through the list archives mentioned at the bottom of every mail.
The archives aren't responding, so I wasn't able to search for the
answer to my question.
I've installed the latest release of OpenSSH (3.6.1p1-1 Installer Build
20030428) on a Windows NT 4 Server box. Every time I try to connect to
it the session disconnects with this message:
usage: posix /c <path> [<args>]
I've also installed the same version of OpenSSH on to a Windows 2000
Server box and it behaves perfectly.
I've tried running SWITCH locally on the NT 4 machine - it generates the
same error message. On the Windows 2000 machine SWITCH successfully
spawns a command shell.
Judging by the source code SWITCH tries to read COMSPEC, or SYSTEMROOT
if COMSPEC isn't populated. On the NT4 machine both COMSPEC and
SYSTEMROOT are populated. I'm not passing any commands on to the remote
system; all I want is for a remote shell to be opened. Accordingly,
unless I've misread SWITCH's source, SWITCH's final action should be to
spawn CMD.EXE from the location specified in COMSPEC, yet it's not doing
so.
What do I need to do to fix this?
