Is this a ownership problem?
Yes

I just did it my self and had to take owner ship to delete the files.

Subject: Trying to remove cygwin
Hi,
I'm trying to remove cygwin entirely. I've followed
the steps described in the unintall page. I ended up
deleting the remaining files buit cannot get rid of
the .ssh directory under home/<username>. Access
denied error. All windows services are stopped and
even booted into safe mode but still the same problem.
Is this a ownership problem? can I get rid without
any Cygwin environment? teh original user does not
exist in windows either.
Be gentle with me as I'm a real novice unix person.
Cheers
Rich
