really dumb question

Let's say I know very little about Unix. Let's say I want to set up the
/etc/passwd file for cygwin to point to the windows dir "D:\admin stuff"
(space between admin and stuff). I'm guessing I want to change the part of
the passwd file for the specific user to something like "/cygdrive/d/admin
stuff" right? However, this isn't working and it's 'cause I don't know how
to properly input the path to include the space. Can this be done, or do I
have to rename the directory to "admin_stuff" (replace the space w/ an
underscore)?

little death that brings total obliteration. I will face
my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when the fear has past, I will turn the inner-eye to
see its path. Where the fear has gone, there will be
nothing, only I will remain."
