I'm also very new to ssh, and am unsure of the
capabilities of ssh. I'm not sure this will work so I
thought I'd ask before hammering my ISP's shell
server.
This is also just theory of mine, so don't laugh to
hard.
Question 1) Would something like the below string give
me a compressed web download/internet connection from
my isp, or just from the shell server? (and this will
probably wrap)
"Ssh –l username –R:8087:webserverIPaddress:80 –C –2
shell.isp.com"
... plus configuring either a standalone client or a
NAT router with the ISP webserver as it's gateway.
1a) Would I also need the -L switch to send web
requests through the shell account?
1b) Would this result in the webserver just blasting
my shell account with everything that passed through
it, or rather, would it take my local requests to the
shell server, then be routed to the gateway ISP
webserver and reply to my requests properly?
Question 2) is how do I repeat that first login
message I got that told me the syntax for enabling
write permissions to my home folder.
I'm using cygwin open ssh client (although putty is an
option too) on winXP Pro, to a FreeBSD shell server of
some kind, which is *probably* open ssh as well since
this developed by openbsd.
